The Renaissance started in Italy and the reason it began was because Italy became wealthy and the wealthy were eager to spend their money supporting artists and geniuses. Renaissance representatives stimulated expertise and talent in many areas. The geniuses of the time are good examples: Leonardo da Vinci, a master painter, sculptor, scientist, inventor, architect, engineer, and writer. Michelangelo, a  painter, sculptor, and architect.

Much of the advances in science, art, and government that had been made by the Greeks and Romans had been lost during the Middle Ages, the Dark Ages.
