The Civil War did get rid of savery for good but that didnt end the disrespect shown towards blacks. So, they continued to live with the horible racist slurs pointed towards them.by the time the 20th century rolled around African Americans had  enough of the racism. Once they had enought hey started to fight for their equality and rights.
