What events led to the creation of the roman empire?

Among the events that led to the establishment of the Roman Empire were the large areas that were conquered by Rome in Europe, Asia and Africa.  The internal problems in the Republic that led to the assassination of Julius Caesar and the deaths of Anthony and Cleopatra led to the establishment of the Roman Empire under Octavian.
