Use direct democracy in a sentence

I think a good sentence could be: During today's plebiscite, ninth grade students were able to use direct democracy.

Direct or pure democracy is when power is exercised by the people in an assembly directly. They are used to perform attributions such as the approval or the repeal of laws. There are 5 forms of direct democracy: the popular initiative, the referendum, the avocation, the plebiscite, and the recall.
