DC power is not usually in home. DC current must be converted to to AC, which is the standard in homes and to avoid short circuits. 

DC or direct current explains the basic idea of electricity as a flow of electrons.
AC, also known as alternating current, electricity switches direction  around 50-60 times each second. In here, electrons do not necessarily have to run in circles to transport energy, they simply run on the spot.
