We know that a transverse wave is characterized by its amplitude, frequency and wavelength . Here, crests and troughs are created which give the idea about the wavelength . The distance between two successive crests or troughs is called wavelength.

A sound wave is a longitudinal wave which moves in the form of compressions and rarefactions. Compressions are the high pressure zones while rarefactions are the low pressure zones in the wave. Here, the distance between two successive compresions or rarefactions is called wavelength of the wave. It is also characterized by frequency and amplitude.

The speed of light is medium dependent . It is more in optically rarer medium while less in optically denser medium . The light does not require any medium for its propagation. It may propagate through space where it has the maximum velocity.

The speed of sound is also medium dependent . It depends on the density and elasticity of the medium.It can not travel through vacuum. It needs a medium for its propagation.
