A closed tank contains water at the bottom and pressurized air at the top. The water discharges to the atmosphere from an orifice at the bottom of the tank. The height of water is 2.5 m and diameter of the orifice is 10 cm. Assume frictionless flow and the water discharge is 0.147 m/s.
i) Calculate the air pressure in the tank. (7 marks)
ii) Determine the new height of water, If the tank is now open to the atmosphere. (3 marks)

Carbon is allowed to diffuse through a steel plate 15 mm thick. the concentrations of carbon at the two faces are 0.65 and 0.30 kg c/m^3 fe, which are maintained constant. if the preexponential and activation energy are 6.2 x 10-7 m2 /s and 80,000 j/mol, respectively, compute the temperature at which the diffusion flux is 1.43 x 10^-9 kg/m^2 -s.
