Two horizontal curves on a bobsled run are banked at the same angle, but one has twice the radius of the other. The safe speed (no friction needed to stay on the run) for the smaller radius curve is v. What is the safe speed on the larger radius curve?
A) v/2
B) v /β 2
C) 2v
D) vβ2
I shall answer it here because is coded horribly.
First, FN = mg/cos
On a banked curve, FNx is the only acceleration force
FNx = mv^2/r
FNx = FNsin
mg/cos * sin = mv^2/r
cancel out the mass (m) and sin*1/cos is tan
gtan = v^2/r
rgtan = v^2
β(rgtan) = v (this is the velocity for the smaller radius.)
call larger radius velocity X
for larger radius, it becomes 2r, so β(2rgtan) = X
understand you can do βxy = βx * βy
β(rgtan) * β2 = X (β(rgtan) = v)
v * β2 = X (where X is velocity with larger radius)
I hate how all of these newer answers do not break down the mechanics, understand using harder to grasp mechanics only makes it harder for the audience. You aren't cool for sounding smarter.

As you are trying to move a heavy box of mass m, you realize that it is too heavy for you to lift by yourself. there is no one around to , so you attach an ideal pulley to the box and a massless rope to the ceiling, which you wrap around the pulley. you pull up on the rope to lift the box. use g for the magnitude of the acceleration due to gravity and neglect friction forces. once you have pulled hard enough to start the box moving upward, what is the magnitude f of the upward force you must apply to the rope to start raising the box with constant velocity? express the magnitude of the force in terms of m, the mass of the box.

The electric potential v is constant everywhere within a certain region of space. which statement below is true? the choices are: the electric field is also constant (but not zero) within the region. a charged particle placed within the region will experience an electric force. the electric field is zero everywhere within the region. the electric field varies from place to place within the region.

Two kilograms of air within a pistonβcylinder assembly executes a carnot power cycle with maximum and minimum temperatures of 800 k and 300 k, respectively. the heat transfer to the air during the isothermal expansion is 60 kj. at the end of the isothermal expansion the volume is 0.4 m3. assume the ideal gas model for the air. determine the thermal efficiency, the volume at the beginning of the isothermal expansion, in m3, and the work during the adiabatic expansion, in kj.
