Underground water is to be pumped by a 78% efficient 5kW submerged pump to a pool whose free surface is 30m above the underground water level. The diameter of the pipe is 7cm on the intake side
and 5cm on the discharge side. Determine:
(a) the maximum flow rate of water
(b) the pressure difference across the pump.
Assume the elevation difference between the pump inlet and the outlet and consider the effect of
kinetic energy correction factors to be negligible.

Atwo-stage air compressor operates at steady state, compression 10m^3/min of air from 100 kpa and 300k to 1200 kpa. an intercooler between the two stages cools the air to 300k at a constant pressure of 350 kpa. the compression processes are isentropic. a) calculate the power required to run the compressor, in kw b) compare the result to the power required for isentropic compression from the same inlet state to the same final pressure.
