The natural gas is obtained from the subsurface layers above the earth crust whereas the petroleum is obtained from the deeper layers of the earth crust. The abundance of the oil is more and easy to be dig out as it is an oil but the abundance of the natural gas is low and less energy producing fuel. Also, the chances of leaking out of the gas is more hence, quantity of the supply may decrease.  But is evident that the natural gas produce 30% less carbon dioxide on burning as compared to burning of the fuel oils.
