Copper isn't cheap, and a significant part of the cost of the motor will be the mass of the copper. You might be able to get more torque for the same cost by using thinner wire, and wrapping up more coils of it. 12 gauge wire has a diameter of 2.05232 mm, and 20 gauge wire has a diameter of 0.8128 mm. How many more coils could you get for the same total mass if you use 20 gauge wire
