16 Define simple harmonic motion. Write down the expressions for the velocity and
acceleration of such motion at the different
positions along its path. A body vibrating
with simple harmonic motion has a frequency
of 4 Hz and an amplitude of 0.15 m. Calculate
a. the maximum values of the acceleration
and velocity
b. the acceleration and velocity at a point
0.09 from the equilibrium position of motion.
17 A coil spring is stretched 9 cm when a mass of
18 kg is suspended from it. Calculate the force
constant of the spring. A body suspended from
the coil when set in vibration is observed to
oscillate vertically with a frequency of 1.5 Hz
Calculate the mass of the body.
