To understand the meaning of the variables that appear in the equations for one-dimensional kinematics with constant acceleration. Motion with a constant, nonzero acceleration is not uncommon in the world around us. Falling (or thrown) objects and cars starting and stopping approximate this type of motion. It is also the type of motion most frequently involved in introductory kinematics problems. The kinematic equations for such motion can be written as
x(t) = xi + vit + 1/2at^2
v(t) = vi + at
x(t) is the position of the particle at time t.
Zi is the initial position of the perticle.
v(t) is the velocity of the particle at time t.

The astronauts on the space shuttle flights experienced an acceleration of 29 m/s2 (about 3 "g's") during lift-off. what upward force must the astronaut's seat apply to the astronaut in order to cause this acceleration? assume the astronaut's mass is 70 kg, and compute this force when the acceleration is near the earth's surface so their weight equals latex: mg m g .

On a mild saturday morning while people are working inside, the furnace keeps the temperature inside the building at 23degreesc. at noon the furnace is turned off, and the people go home. the temperature outside is a constant 16degreesc for the rest of the afternoon. if the time constant for the building is 3 hr, when will the temperature inside the building reach 18degreesc? if some windows are left open and the time constant drops to 2 hr, when will the temperature inside reach 18degreesc?
