You’ve been promoted to the acoustics company! You’ve moved from the shipping department to research and development. Your first client presents you with a problem. They moved into a new condo, but the upstairs neighbours make a lot of noise. The client has tried earplugs, noise-cancelling headphones, and white noise, and yet nothing has worked. They can still hear every step their neighbours take. You recommend installing sound-absorbing material in the client's ceiling so that the neighbours’ sounds will no longer be heard. Describe the properties and structure of the material you recommend. Then explain in terms of energy and the material’s structure how it will physically absorb the sound. Air is to be preheated by hot exhaust gases in a cross-flow heat exchanger before it enters the furnace. air enters the heat exchanger at 95 kpa and 20°c at a rate of 0.6 m^3/s. the combustion gases (cp = 1.10 kj/kg°c) enter at 160°c at a rate of 0.95 kg/s and leave at 95°c. determine the rate of heat transfer to the air and its outlet temperature.
