Paola, Isaiah and Ajay were wondering if the location that they hold a baseball bat will affect the distance a ball travels when it is hit. To answer their question they each conducted their
own investigation. Below is a summary of their procedures.
1. Each friend used his or her own bat and ball
2. Each friend hit his or her ball 20 times
. 10 times while holding the bat in the middle
• 10 times while holding the bat at the bottom
3. Each friend recorded the distance traveled by the ball after each hit.
After completing the investigation, they compared their results and concluded that holding the
bat in the middle would result in the furthest distance traveled. What should they do to improve
their investigation?
A. One friend should use another friend's baseball and baseball bat to increase replication in
the investigation.
B. Each friend should use a third grip on the baseball bat to increase the data for
the outcome variable (dependent variable).
C. One friend should use the same baseball and baseball bat to limit the investigation to
one test variable (independent variable).
D. Each friend should increase the number of times they hit the ball from ten times to twenty
times to increase the repetition in the investigation.
