Locate the main groups of elements in each column on the periodic table, and identify the number of valence electrons there are in each element in a particular group. Infer why some elements are more reactive than others due to their number of valence electrons.

Interpret and describe an example of a chemical formula. Summarize the two parts a chemical formula must have.

Why do atoms bond? Describe examples of the two ways elements complete their valence shell through bonding.

Both acids and bases produce ions when dissolved in water. Propose a way to describe what hydroxide ions (OH−) and H+ (hydrogen) ions are. What do they have to do with acids and bases and the pH scale?

Using what you know about acids, bases and pH, predict what will happen when an acid, such as vinegar, is mixed with water. How would mixing a base, such as baking soda, with water be different?

Asilver dollar is dropped from the top of a building that is 1324 feet tall. use the position function below for free-falling objects. s(t) = −16t2 + v0t + s0 (a) determine the position and velocity functions for the coin. s(t) = v(t) = (b) determine the average velocity on the interval [1, 2]. ft/s (c) find the instantaneous velocities when t = 1 second and t = 2 seconds. v(1) = ft/s v(2) = ft/s (d) find the time required for the coin to reach the ground level. (round your answer to three decimal places.) t = s (e) find the velocity of the coin at impact. (round your answer to three decimal places.) ft/s

The drag force, fd, imposed by the surrounding air on a vehicle moving with velocity v is given by fd = cdaρv 2/2 where cd is a constant called the drag coefficient, a is the projected frontal area of the vehicle, and ρ is the air density. an automobile is moving at v = 80 kilometers per hour with cd = 0.28, a = 2.3 m2, and ρ = 1.2 kg/m3.
