Linear Momentum a. Two carts labeled "1" and "2" have different masses where m1 = 2m2. They travel with the same speed vi, but in opposite directions toward each other. They collide head-on in a perfectly inelastic collision. Show equations (based upon theory) to determine the speed of the carts after the collision in terms of their original speed vi . b. Calculate the fraction of the carts’ total final kinetic energy (Ef ) to that of their total initial kinetic energy (Ef /Ei). Use the initial conditions in part a. above to begin.

Agas initially at p1 = 1 bar and occupying a volume of 0.5 liter is compressed within a piston–cylinder assembly to a final pressure p2 = 4 bar. (a) if the relationship between pressure and volume during the compression is pv = constant, determine the volume, in liters, at a pressure of 3 bar. (b) repeat for a linear pressure–volume relationship between the same end states. reference
