The somatic nervous system is one of the branches of peripheral nervous system that deals with the control of the body movements voluntarily through skeletal muscles. Afferent or sensory nerves and efferent or motor nerves are the two components of somatic nervous system.  

The sensory nerves helps in relaying sensation from the body to CNS and the motor nerves helps in transmitting commands from the CNS to the body.
