Aheavy ball is dropped from a point right below the passenger side mirror of a car moving along a straight road at 15 m/s. the ball is released just as the mirror passes a person standing on the sidewalk. if the person were to mark a point on the sidewalk right below where the ball is released and call that the origin of his coordinate system, with the mirror being 0.8 m above the sidewalk, what equations for the x and y position of the ball would he write out? that is write out the x-t and y-t equations for the motion of the ball. leave x, y and t as unknowns and treating any effects from drag or other forms of friction as negligible. the sidewalk is 20 cm higher than the street where the ball eventually lands. use the equations from part a to determine how long it takes for the ball to hit the road and the horizontal displacement it has undergone from the time of release. if the person in the car were to set up equations as in part abut used a coordinate system whose origin was at sidewalk level below the mirror and this origin moved with the car so it was always below the mirror, what would those equations look like? write them out. how are these equations similar to those from part a how are they different? discuss. according to the equations from c how long will it take for the ball to hit the road? (you may be able to answer without calculation, but explain.) where horizontally, relative to the mirror, is the ball as it hits the road? explain how you know.
