a 4.00 cm x 4.00 cm x 4.00 cm cube of density 950 kg/m^3 is floating at rest at the top of a beaker of cross sectional area 100 cm^2 with 500 ml of water in it (1 ml of water has a volume of 1 cm^3 or 1x10^-6 m^3). 400 ml of oil of density 900 kg/m^3 is added to the top of the beaker, and the cube is observed to float completely submerged, straddling in the boundary between the oil and the water. determine the following:
a. the buoyant force on the block?
b. the volume of the block that is underwater?
c. what is het depth of the water layer and of the oil?
d. what is the force that the water pressure exerts on the bottom of the beaker? (how does this compare with the total weight of the beakers contents? )
the answers should be f= 0.5958 n, v water = 3.20 x 10%-5 m^3, depth water = 5.32 cm and depth oil = 4.32 cm, and f bottom = 0.90238 n
solve all four parts (a, b,c, and d) of the question! in advance!
