A1.5m wire carries a 2 a current when a potential difference of 79 v is applied. what is the resistance of the wire?

Given data:

current in the wire (I) = 2 A,

Potential difference (V) = 79 V,

determine,

 The resistance in the wire (R) = ?

Ohm's law, it states that the the current passing through the conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across two points.  It also known as the resistance (R) in this relation is constant that is independent of current.

            Mathematically,  

                                 V = I.R  Volts        (i)

                                  Where  V = voltage in volts

                                                I =  current in Amperes

                                               R = Resistance in ohms

         From (i)  we will write it as  

                                    R = V/I   ohms

                                     = 79/ 2

                                     = 39.5 ohms

                                  R = 39.5 Ω

       The resistance of the wire is 39.5 Ω
