1) The consumption of gas as a function of the distance that you travel in a vehicle.

This can be modeled as a linear relation, if you travel a bigger distance, your carr will consume more gas.

2) Suppose you put a rock in the oven for one hour, and now the rock is very hot, you put it on to the ground and let it cool down. Now you can think about the temperature of the rock as a function of time, where the temperature will decrease with time.

This situation is modeled with an exponential decrease, where at the beginning the temperature decreases fast, and as the time increases, the temperature starts to decrease at a slower rate, until the rock is at the same temperature that the environment.

3) The sound of an television as a function of your distance to it; as you know, when you get further away from the tv, the sound will decrease.

This is not a linear or exponential relation, this is an inverse relation, where if the distance increases, the volume of the sound decreases.
