In nuclear fission, an atom of uranium splits apart, releasing neutrons and lots of energy. One second later, the neutrons can hit other nearby uranium atoms, causing them to also split apart. If each uranium atom releases 3 neutrons, and each neutron splits up one uranium atom in a second, how many atoms will be split at 8 seconds?
