There are many real world problems that can be solved using systems of equations. You could use systems of equations to determine how much of what items were sold during a concession stand sale. For example, funnel cakes and lemonades are being sold for $1.50 and $0.50 respectively. The total proceeds from the sales amount to $78.50 and the total number of funnel cakes and lemonades sold were 87. Determine how many of each item were sold. Let f = nu mber of funnel cakes sold and let l = number of lemonades sold. The two equations needed to begin solving the problem would include the following:

1) 1.50f + 0.50l = 78.50

2) f + l = 87
