Adding and subtracting mixed numbers with unlike denominators
I know this isn’t a question but this is if you don’t understand and this is my method I did have trouble with this at one point and I wanted to share how I understand it it so I hope this helps ☮️
This is a an example of subtracting and borrowing I will do step by step
The example is 7 1/2 - 2 7/10
Step 1 find your least common denominator / LCD
Step 2 rename your fraction by multiplying your denominator to see how many time it can go to your LCD Ex. LCD = 10 2x5= 10 1x5=5
Remember : whatever you do to your denominator you do to your numerator with multiplying
Step 3 if your left fraction is less than your right fraction you need to borrow EX. 7 1/2 - 2 7/10 1 can go into 7 so we need to borrow we take 1 away from 7 which will be 6 you will technically do 1 whole x 10 = 10 because 1 x 10 = 10 + 5 from your numerator = 15 so you will
