The Ministry of Higher Education, in one of its studies, wanted to obtain a representative sample of Zambia college students. To do so, they stratified all colleges and universities into a number of groups (e. g. public universities with 25,000 or more students, and private three-year colleges with 1,000 or fewer students). Then they picked one college or university in each stratum that they regarded as representative.
