Separate the 2 figures. the triangle and the rectangle. the area of  a triangle is 1/2bh and the area of a rectangle is lw. so the area of the triangle is 30 and the area of the rectangle is 24. then add the two shapes' areas together. and the area of the whole shape is 54.
