In a roller-skating rink, the skaters all move at different speeds. most skate slightly faster or slower than others, but sometimes an adventuresome skater accelerates to an "outlying" speed that is much higher than that of everyone else, causing a hazard. as a result, skating rinks often post a sign that says:
any skater moving faster than the average speed of all the skaters will be asked to leave the rink.
it is clear what the sign means, but it is statistically nonsensical. if there are 150 skaters in the rink, all skating at slightly varying speeds, what is the best estimate for how many of them are moving faster than the average speed of all the skaters?
a. 100
b. 0
c. 25
d. 75
e. 50

Solve the problem. a student earned grades of c, a, b, and a in four different courses. those courses had these corresponding numbers of credit hours: 4, 5, 1, and 5. the grading system assigns quality points to letter grades as follows: a = 4, b = 3, c = 2, d = 1, and f = 0. compute the grade point average (gpa) and round the result to two decimal places. 3.40 3.50 8.75 2.18
