Does each individual group need the same amount of girls to boys, or does each group need the same amount of girls and boys as the other groups? The first way, there can only be twelve groups. A boy and a girl in each group so it's equal, and 24 boys sit out.
The second way, the answer is 16. Each group will have two boys and one girl. So each group will have three kids. 12 plus 36 is 48, and 48 divided by 3 is 16.
