Which strategy best explains how to solve this problem?
maribel dropped a ball from a height of 14 feet from the top of the play structure. the ball bounced up half the distance and then came back to the ground and hit the sand where it stopped bouncing.
how far did the ball travel?
a.
make a table.
1st bounce - 14 ft.
2nd bounce - 7 ft.
3rd bounce - 3.5 ft.
add the three numbers.
b.
translate into a number sentence.
(14 ÷ 2) + 14 × 2 = d
divide the distance from the top of the play structure by 2 and add the initial distance from the top of the play structure. multiply that result by 2.
c.
draw a diagram.
draw the path that the ball traveled and label the distances. first distance from the top of the play structure to the bottom is 14 feet. it next traveled up half the distance and traveled back down the same distance. add up all the distances.
