1. The best strategy to use would be to use what you know, such as multiplication facts. You know the square root of say, 40, is not 8 because 8 is the square root of 64. So now you have something to work with. You can set up a boundary. You have 8 and you have a lower number, say 5, because 5 is the square root of 25. You know 40 is in between 64 and 25, and you also know that the square roots are 5 and 8, so now you can narrow it down. You can use this method/strategy for each problem.
