a bat and a ball cost one dollar and ten cents in total. the bat costs a dollar more than the ball. how much does the ball cost?

The ball costs ten cents. If the total cost is $1.10 and the bat costs $1 more than the ball then the only logical cost for the ball is $0.10 because $1 +$0.10= $1.10, which is the cost we are looking for. 

The ball costs 5 cents.  1.05+.05=1.10 (1.05=the price of the bat, .05= the price of the ball)

The skating rink rented 872 pairs of skates during april and may.why? : if the skating rink rented three times the pair of skates in april during may, they rented 654 skates. 218 x 3 = 654then, if they want to know how many they rented during both april and may, then you just add 654 (may) and 218 (april) to give you 872 pairs of skates for both months.654 + 218 = 872hope this !
