Charlotte is redecorating the master bedroom in her house. She has purchased a new bedroom set and also plans to paint the room and put in new flooring. The room is rectangular, with dimensions of 16 feet by 13 feet. The walls in the room are 9 feet tall, and the room contains two doors and two windows. While determining how much paint to purchase, Charlotte finds the following information on the internet.

One gallon of paint typically covers 350 square feet.
The average door has an area of about 20 square feet.
The average window has an area of about 15 square feet.
Charlotte performs the following calculations to determine how much paint to buy.

She calculates the area of each of the four walls and finds that the total area of the walls, disregarding the doors and windows is 531 square feet.
There are two walls that have dimensions of 16 feet by 9 feet: 2(16 feet)(9 feet) = 288 square feet.
There are two walls that have dimensions of 13 feet by 9 feet: 2(13 feet)(9 feet) = 243 square feet.
Total area of walls: 288 square feet + 243 square feet = 531 square feet.
Next, she calculates that the doors and windows add an extra 70 square feet, making the total square footage 601 square feet.
Area of doors and windows: 2(20 square feet) + 2(15 square feet) = 40 square feet + 30 square feet = 70 square feet.
Total area, including doors and windows: 531 square feet + 70 square feet = 601 square feet.
Finally, she calculates that since one gallon of paint covers 350 square feet, she will need two gallons of paint.
= โ‡’ 601(1) = 350x โ‡’ 601 = 350x โ‡’ 1.72 โ‰ˆ x
Since the paint Charlotte is buying only comes in gallons, she figures that she'll need to buy two gallons.
Do Charlotte's calculations make sense? Why or why not? Make sure to address each step in your answer and use complete sentences to explain your reasoning.
