I have been learning |-6| stuff but i fontt get it

When a number is written like |-6| its asking you how far away the number is from zero. For example, if the problem was |19| then the answer would be 19. Sometimes these problems will say something like:

“Which has a greater absolute value? |3| or |-4|“

In this problem the correct answer would be |-4| because the distance from 0 to -4 is 4 while the distance from 0 to 3 is 3.
