You have gone out to eat with a couple of friends. One is your date, and the other is your good friend Bill. At the end, you get the check, and you decide to split it in two parts. You will pay for yourself and your date, while Bill will pay for 1/3 of(*) the total amount. You end up paying $16.00 for your part of the meal. Later, you can’t remember how much the total bill was, but you are sure you can figure it out. 1. Write a system of equations to represent this situation, and solve the system to find out how much the total cost of the meal was (including your part as well as Bill’s part). Show all of your work.

2. How much did Bill pay for his part of the meal? Again, show all of your work.
