ticien arabe Al Khwarizmi
(dont le nom est à l'origine
du mot « algorithme ») a
utilisé une méthode géo-
métrique pour trouver
une solution de l'équation
x²+10x = 39.
On construit un carré de
côté x.
On borde ce carré de deux
rectangles dont l'aire est
10x/2
On complète le grand carré.
L'ensemble a pour aire x² +10x + 25, soit 39 + 25 = 64.
Ainsi, le grand carré a pour côté 8.
x vaut donc 3.
1. À l'aide de la méthode d'Al Khawarizmi, résoudre
l'équation x² + 12x = 85.
2. Faire de même avec l'équation x² + 2x = 8.
