Remember to label and write in complete sentences! (Tip: converting from 100 m to 1500 m means multiplying by 15)

1. 2016 Summer Olympics
First place:
Second place:
Third place:
Fourth place:
Fifth place:
Sixth place:
Seventh place:
Eighth place:

2.

3.

4.

Additional Challenge (Tip: slower means adding time to the original time):

1. Research the winners of the first eight places in the 100-meter men’s race
during the last summer Olympics and their recorded times in the final event.
2. Calculate the average time of the eight top finalists.
3. If the runner who got first place, ran 1500 meters at the same pace as he did
the first 100 meters; what would his final time be?
4. If the runner who received 8th place kept running at the same pace as he did
in the first 100 meters, how many meters would he be able to run in the
amount of time it took the first-place winner in Step Three to run 1500 meters?
Additional Challenge: Last, research the first-place winner of the women’s
100-meter race in the last summer Olympics and record her winning time.
Pretend the winner of the women’s competition ran 1000 meters. Her pace for
the first 100 meters would be the same as her award-winning Olympic time;
however, every 100 meters after that would be .9 seconds slower than the
previous 100 meters, how long would it take her to run 1000 meters?
Display your data in a table or graph showing the pace she ran every 100 meters.
(For example, if the women’s first place winning time was 9.61, she would run her
first 100 meters at a pace of 9.61. She would run her next 100 meters at a pace of
10.51, .9 seconds slower than her previous 100 meters and so on.)
On your sticky note, provide the following:
• Record the times of the first eight runners in the last summer Olympics
for the men’s 100-meter dash. Record the average times of the winner.
• Record the first-place winner’s name, his winning time and what his final
time would be if he ran 1500 meters.
• Record how many meters the 8th place men’s winner would be able to
run in the same time that it took the first-place winner to run 1500
meters.
• Record the name of the winner of the women’s 100-meter race in the
last summer Olympics and her winning time. Create a table to show the
female’s pace during her 1000-meter run that includes her final time.
