In Acapulco, Mexico, there is a famous place called La Quebrada, or "The Break in the Rocks," where divers jump from high on the cliffs into the Pacific Ocean. Once a diver jumps, there is a relationship between how far from the cliff the diver is and how high above the water the diver is. The relationship is given by the function y=−x2+2x+22. In this function, x is the diver's horizontal distance from the cliff and y is the diver's height above the water. Both distances are in meters.
