The given line's slope is 3, so the parallel line's slope is also 3. Plug this into the equation:

y = mx + b

y = 3x + b     To find b, plug in the point (1, 2) into the equation

2 = 3(1) + b

2 = 3 + b     Subtract 3 on both sides to get "b" by itself

2 - 3 = 3 - 3 + b

-1 = b

y = 3x - 1

set each factor equal to 0

4x-3 = 0

2x-1 = 0

solve for x.

4x-3=0

4x=3

x= 3/4

solve for x. 

2x-1= 0

2x= 1

x= 1/2
