You can see the moon and many of the same stars that early astronomers saw. You can even see planets. You do not need a gigantic telescope to study our solar system's moons. You can see the features on our moon simply by looking up. It helps to have binoculars or a telescope, especially when looking at the moons of other planets. In fact, some of Jupiter's moons are big enough to see with a pair of binoculars. You might be able to use a larger telescope someday, but until then, you can be an amateur astronomer in your own backyard.
