A lecturer wanted to study the online shopping behaviour of ABC University students in 2019/2020.
All students in ABC University were categorized into 4 groups based on their registered programme,
namely: medicine, science, business and art. Twenty five students were randomly selected from each
group. Selected students were asked to answer a number of relevant questions. These questions were
listed as follows.
Question (1) - Which group are you belonging to? (medicine, science, business and art)
Question (11) - How many hours do you spend on internet per week? (around to an integer)
Question (III) - Do you agree or disagree with the following statement "Online shopping saves
time."? (Totally disagree/ disagree/ neutral/ agree/totally agree)
Question (IV) - How much do you spend (in HK$100) on online shopping per month on average?
Based on the above research study, answer the following:

a)
It was found that on average the selected students spend $420 on online shopping per
month. Indicate whether this statement is a descriptive or inferential statistics. (1 mark)
(b)
For each of the following variables, determine whether the variable is qualitative or
quantitative. If the variable is quantitative, determine whether the variable is discrete or
continuous. In addition, indicate the level of measurement.
(10 marks)
(i) Group based on students' registered programme
(ii) Number of hours that the students spend on internet per week
(iii) Level of agreement on the statement about online shopping
(iv) The amount of money that students' spend on online shopping per month (in HK$100)
