I am supposed to solve y + y/2 = 1
I multiplied both sides by 2 and i got:
y + y = 2
And then when I solved for y I got the wrong answer.
The answer is y= = 2/3
When they multiplied both sides by 2, they also multiplied the other y with 2.
I don't understand why they multiplied the y with 2 instead of the 2 just cancelling out. Please explain why, thank you
