Given that,

There are 20 children.

in which 12 are girls.

And, the remaining are of boys i.e. = 20 -12 = 8 boys.

8 girls brought a lunch box so it means 4 girls do not bring a lunch box.

6 boys do not bring a lunch bo so it means 2 boys bring a lunch box.

Total number of children in class = 20

Number of girls = 12

Number of boys = total number - number of girls

Number of boys = 20 - 12 = 8

Number of girls who brought lunch box = 8

12 - 8 = 4 girls did not bring lunch box

Number of boys who brought lunch box :

(Number of boys - number of boys who did not bring  lunch box)

(8 - 6) = 2 boys brought  lunch box

Total number of children who brought lunch box :

(8 + 2 ) = 10 children

Probability that a child chosen at random brought lunch box :

P(brought lunch box) :

(Number of children who did brought lunch box / total number of children)

P(brought lunch box) = 10 / 20 = 1 /2
