1. Each field trip boxed lunch for Mrs. Patel’s class will come with one of five different pieces of fruit: apple, banana, grapes, orange, or peach. Using the line of the random number table shown to do a simulation and assigning 2 or 3 for banana, what is the probability a boxed lunch will have a banana?

2.The probability that a spinner lands on the green area is 4/15. Predict the number of times the spinner lands on green if you spin the spinner 90 times. Explain how you found your answer.

There are five different types of fruit: apple, banana, grapes, orange, and peach.

Since there are 10 digits (0 - 9), in order for the random digits represent the event of picking some type of fruits, two different digits are assigned to each type of fruit.

It is stated that the digits 2 and 3 are assignated for banana.

Then, to use the random numbers to estimate the probability that a boxed lunch will have a banana, you must count the number of times a 2 or a 3 appears in the line of the random number table. That is why I bolded them.

There are in total 14 digits that are 2 or 3.

How many random numbers were generated: 50.

Hence, the probability is 14/50 = 7/25 = 0.28

The expected number of times the spinner lands on green, if you spin the spinner 90 times, is equal to the probability times the number of times the spinner is spined.
