Aresearcher has been collecting survey data for a year and is almost ready to start the statistical analysis. however, there is a fire in the building which destroys all of the paper surveys and the computer where the data had been entered. the researcher had not made a backup copy or uploaded files to the cloud. he doesn’t want to start all over again, so he tries to recreate the survey data based on his memory of what hundreds of people said in the surveys. in the final research report, the fire and loss of the actual data are not mentioned. is this ethical or unethical?
