Note that when there is a negative & positive sign, the sign would become negative. When there is two negative signs directly next to each other, it would become positive.

1. First, find common denominators, what you do to the denominator, you do to the numerator.

(5/9) - (1/3) = (5/9) - (1/3)(3/3) = (5/9) - (3/9) = 2/9

2. In the case of multiplication and division, you do not need common denominators. Multiply across, and simplify.

(2/5)(3/4) = 6/20 = (6/20)/(2/2) = 3/10

3. Simplify. Combine the numbers.

-4.6 + (-8.1) = -4.6 - 8.1 = -12.7

4. Simplify. Combine the numbers.

102 + (-35) = 102 - 35 = 67

5. Simplify. Combine the numbers.

8 - (-3) - 10 = 8 + 3 - 10 = 11 - 10 = 1

6. Note the variables. Combine numbers with the same amount of variables.

10 - 5 - 2x + 4x = 5 + 2x
