On the other hand, due to some overlap in meaning, the familiarity may be somewhat helpful with memorizing these terms in statistics.  

The word "normal" in statistics refers to a random variable distributing according to a Gaussian distribution. We hardly mean that when saying "I had a pretty normal day." There is only a very loose connection between them: normal, as in uneventful, ties to the Gaussian distribution in that it is symmetric and quite simple among other things.
