Police have been investigating Irvin for several months. They suspect he has been collecting workers compensation
benefits by lying about his injuries. The police have collected
substantial amounts of evidence against Irvin, including
videotapes of his playing golf and copies of the benefits
applications he has completed. Believing they have probable
cause, police go to Irvin's house. When Irvin answers the
door, the police tell him "We do not have a warrant, but we
are prepared to go and get one. We've been watching you
and we know you have been lying about your injuries. If you
don't let us come in and search your house we will go get a
warrant and come back Irvin consents and lets the police
search his house and the police find more evidence against
Irvin.
