Alice argument was retained as a defense attorney by Dorothy Defendant, whom Patty Prosecutor has charged with homicide. Patty Prosecutor's office was overworked and she argued to Alice that it was a waste of resources to have to try the case since there were direct eyewitnesses and no question that Dorothy committed the offense. She thus told Alice that sanctions could be imposed against the lawyer personally. Alice refused Patty's settlement offers and after extensive discovery, insisted upon taking the case to trial. Dorothy did not take the stand. The jury found Dorothy guilty and many jurors commented that the defense presented virtually no case at all. Patty Prosecutor was outraged that she had to assign her limited resources to the case in order to get the conviction. She further believed the defense was too weak to ever carry the jury verdict and that Alice's arguments lacked merit and credibility.
