Last night, a couple left their car parked on the street outside their house, just as they always do. In the morning, they discovered someone had broken into their car. Not much was missing: just a few dollars in change, a baseball hat, and some tools from the trunk. Reporting the crime to the police will make them late for work, and they aren’t likely to get their things back.
Why might it be valuable to the police or community for them to report the crime anyway? Would you report the crime if you were one of the couple involved? Why or why not?
